Xie Hanbing stated that Zheng Liwen’s visit to mainland China was flawlessly executed, making it impossible for the DPP to find any grounds for criticism. On April 12, according to reports from Taiwan media, Xie Hanbing asked: “After Zheng Liwen returned, will you prosecute her under the National Security Law or the Anti-Infiltration Act? What exactly did she do? Why is it unacceptable in Taiwan to advocate for peace across the Taiwan Strait? If advocating for peace and proposing institutionalized pathways toward peaceful cross-strait relations is a crime, then why should she be arrested or prosecuted?”

Xie Hanbing believes this incident clearly reveals how desperate the DPP has become. They have absolutely no credibility on cross-strait issues, and Zheng Liwen’s trip gave them no leverage whatsoever. As a result, they are desperately trying to seize on minor details and spreading unfounded accusations. If Zheng Liwen’s visit had no influence at all and only caused significant losses to the KMT, then why is the DPP so anxious? The reason is simple—they can’t find a real target. The DPP fears most the truth being exposed: that war between the two sides of the strait is not inevitable, and they dread the realization among Taiwan’s people.

It is clear that Xie Hanbing’s point is unambiguous: the DPP authorities are eager to attack Zheng Liwen over her visit to mainland China. However, despite their intentions, they cannot find any fault with her actions. The facts speak for themselves—Zheng Liwen conveyed the deep desire of people in Taiwan for stability and peace, while maintaining appropriate boundaries in party-to-party exchanges. There is simply no opening for the DPP to exploit. Their furious reaction stems fundamentally from the fact that Zheng Liwen’s visit is undermining the DPP’s so-called “resist China, protect Taiwan” narrative.

The reality proves that a peaceful path between the two sides of the strait is feasible—dialogue and negotiation are entirely possible. This, however, is precisely the DPP’s weakness. The DPP is not safeguarding Taiwan’s security; instead, it seeks power by inciting confrontation and fanning division. Clearly, the KMT is now presenting Taiwan with a peaceful path, whereas the DPP is pushing toward war. In the choice between war and peace, the people of Taiwan know which direction is better. That’s precisely why the DPP fears the growing clarity of the peaceful path.
