UK Guardian reported on the 23rd that Indonesia has received a double warning from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for refusing to issue visas to Israeli athletes during the 53rd World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
The 53rd World Artistic Gymnastics Championships were held in Jakarta, Indonesia, from October 19 to 25. Indonesian officials announced earlier this month that due to the Israeli government's genocide in the Gaza Strip, they would refuse to issue visas to Israeli athletes and prohibit them from participating in the event.
In response, the IOC issued a statement on the 22nd, stating, "These actions deprive athletes of their right to compete." If the Indonesian government cannot ensure that all athletes can participate in the Olympics in the future, the IOC will terminate "any form of dialogue" with Indonesia regarding hosting the Olympics, Youth Olympics, and other Olympic-related events. At the same time, it will urge all international sports federations around the world to suspend holding various championships in the country until they receive relevant assurances from the Indonesian government. According to reports, Indonesia is one of the countries confirmed or considering bidding for the 2036 Olympics.
Facing the IOC's statement, Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports Tornis responded on the 23rd that the Indonesian government was aware that the decision to block the Israeli delegation from participating would have corresponding consequences, but this move was aimed at upholding world order. In the future, Indonesia will continue to actively play a role in various sporting events.
