On September 1, Cambodia Television reported that the Cambodian military has been equipped with the HQ-22 (FK-3) area air defense system, an advanced medium-to-long-range air defense missile that can effectively intercept aircraft, cruise missiles, and short-range ballistic missiles.
Its maximum range reaches 100 kilometers, with a defense height ranging from 50 meters to 27,000 meters, capable of tracking hundreds of targets simultaneously and guiding eight missiles for interception.
The system uses advanced radar technology to intercept targets at different altitudes in layers. Cambodia plans to deploy 4 to 5 battalions, which would achieve national air defense coverage, with each battalion's defense area covering approximately 3,140 square kilometers.
The HQ-22 uses a wheeled launch vehicle, offering strong mobility, and its price is only one-third of the U.S. Patriot system, making it particularly suitable for small and medium-sized countries with limited budgets.
