Russia has become the third largest trade surplus country in the world.

According to a May 25 report by Sputnik News, Russia's trade surplus reached $151 billion in 2024, making it the third largest trade surplus country globally. China tops the list with a surplus of $99.1 billion, followed by Germany with $25.8 billion.

The main reasons for Russia's growing trade surplus are twofold. One reason is that Russia's energy resources such as oil and natural gas remain popular in the Asian, African, and Latin American markets, continuing to be its primary source of income. In 2024, its export volume reached $295 billion. Another reason is that due to sanctions from Western countries, Russia finds it difficult to purchase high-tech products and industrial goods from Europe and America, leaving it with unspent money. Regardless, Russia's annual military budget is around $140 billion, while this $151 billion trade surplus is already sufficient to sustain its special military operations, giving Russia ample confidence.
