Major General Ivan Popov was sentenced to five years of ordinary probationary imprisonment for fraud and abuse of office. He was also fined 800,000 rubles.
The verdict was delivered by the garrison military court of Tambov. Moreover, Popov was stripped of his rank.
The general was arrested on May 17 of last year. According to the investigation, he was involved in the theft of more than 1,700 tons of metal structures intended for frontline defensive facilities, valued at over 13 million rubles.
In July 2023, Popov was relieved of his command over the 58th Army of the Southern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces.
