The United States has added Antifa-related groups in Europe to the list of terrorist organizations
The US government announced on Thursday, November 13, that several movements active in Germany, Italy and Greece, which call themselves "Antifa" (anti-fascist), have been designated as "terrorist organizations." This move is part of President Trump's comprehensive pressure campaign against the Antifa forces.
According to AFP, President Trump signed an executive order this September, officially classifying "Antifa" as a "terrorist organization," and the signing of the executive order coincided with the day after the assassination of far-right internet personality Charlie Kirk, when official mourning ceremonies were held.
According to a statement released by US Secretary of State Rubio on Thursday, the entities designated this time include "Antifa Ost" (Antifa East) based in Germany, as well as three organizations in Italy and Greece. These groups will be listed as "foreign terrorist organizations" from November 20.
The statement said that "Antifa Ost" carried out multiple attacks in Germany from 2018 to 2023, targeting individuals it deemed "fascists," and was accused of carrying out an attack in Hungary in 2023.
Hungary had already followed the US this September, designating "Antifa" as a terrorist organization.
Other named organizations include the Italian Anarchist Federation FAI/FRI, and two anarchist groups in Greece.
The US Department of State stated that these designated organizations "adhere to anarchist or revolutionary Marxist ideologies, hold anti-American, anti-capitalist and anti-Christian positions, and use these to incite or justify their violent acts in the United States and abroad."
Under US law, once a group is designated as a "foreign terrorist organization," its members are prohibited from entering the United States, all their assets within the United States will be frozen, and any individual or institution providing material support to them will be illegal.
