Italy has become the first country in the European Union to pass a comprehensive law regulating the use of artificial intelligence. According to Profit.Ro media, the law, among other provisions, restricts minors' access to artificial intelligence and stipulates that those who maliciously use the technology (such as creating deepfake content) may be sentenced to prison.

The Georgia Meloni government stated that the bill is an extension of the innovative "Artificial Intelligence Act" passed by the EU several years ago, and "a key step for Italy to promote the transformation of artificial intelligence applications." The bill aims to promote the "human-centered, transparent, and safe application of artificial intelligence," with particular attention to "innovation, cybersecurity, and privacy protection."

The bill stipulates that those who illegally spread artificial intelligence-generated or processed content that causes harm will face 1 to 5 years in prison. For crimes such as fraud and personal information theft using artificial intelligence technology, the bill also sets stricter penalty measures. In addition, the bill has stricter rules for the use of artificial intelligence technology in various fields such as the workplace, healthcare, education, judiciary, and sports. Minors under the age of 14 must obtain parental consent to access artificial intelligence.
