Targeting the Scarborough Shoal
Philippine media confirmed that the Philippines and India will hold their first maritime cooperation activities in the South China Sea.
General Romeo Brawner, Chief of the Philippine Armed Forces, announced this news on the Indian Navy oiler INSShakti docked in the Manila port area.
In a statement on Friday, August 1, the Philippine Armed Forces said that this joint patrol would be "the first such patrol in the (so-called) South China Sea, which is increasingly important for maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region."
According to The Hindustan Times, the Philippine and Indian navies will hold bilateral maritime activities near the Scarborough Shoal next week, coinciding with President Ferdinand Marcos's first visit to India after taking office.
