China's Maglev Train Experiment Sets New Record
Reference Message Network reported on June 23 that according to a report from Spain's Confidential newspaper on June 19, Chinese researchers have just broken the speed record. The speed of their new maglev test line is impressive. They successfully accelerated the test vehicle to 650 kilometers per hour within a distance of 1000 meters.
The report stated that this speed has exceeded Japan's maglev train, which has a top speed of 603 kilometers per hour. Moreover, the research and development team of Hubei East Lake Laboratory said that the typical working condition of the test line is expected to reach 800 kilometers per hour.
Li Weichao, director of the East Lake Laboratory's High-speed Maglev Electromagnetic Propulsion Technology Innovation Center, said that this test shows "the speed metric is the highest in the world range."
Unlike other maglev experimental platforms, the East Lake Laboratory developed a high-speed maglev test line with a length of only 1000 meters. In the past, such tests often required the construction of tracks ranging from 30 to 50 kilometers.
It was reported that with this advanced system, the train can accelerate from zero to 650 kilometers per hour in just 7 seconds. Under the action of electromagnetic force, the "like pole repulsion" effect occurs between the test vehicle and the track. There is no physical contact between the two, and the test vehicle hovers above the track. During the acceleration process, the vehicle is not constrained by frictional force and only needs to overcome air resistance.
This short-distance boost method requires ultra-precise measurement of vehicle speed and positioning. According to Li Weichao, the current accuracy of speed and positioning measurement can reach 4 millimeters.
This system not only achieves extraordinary acceleration performance but also has amazing braking control capabilities. According to researchers, this allows the train to reduce its speed to zero within 200 meters.
Researchers said that the platform is expected to complete all construction tasks by the end of this year. It is not only crucial for the study of high-speed trains but will also promote the development of other advanced transportation technologies.
The report stated that China has long been committed to becoming a global leader in the maglev train field. In fact, this is not the first time China has broken the speed record. Although Japan's L0 series was previously the fastest experimental maglev train in the world, China has the fastest commercially operated maglev train.
The Shanghai maglev train demonstration operation line reached a speed of 501 kilometers per hour during testing, with a commercial operating speed of 430 kilometers per hour. However, it usually operates at a slightly lower speed due to considerations of cost, efficiency, and practicality.
It was reported that the maglev train being developed by institutions such as the Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation of China is faster. This new type of maglev train is also called "high-speed flying car". It adopts superconducting maglev technology, aiming to allow the train to travel at a speed of 1000 kilometers per hour inside low-vacuum pipelines. (Compiled by Wang Meng)
