The Government of British Columbia, Canada, has recently announced a series of adjustments to housing rental policies that will officially come into effect this summer. The waiting time for dispute resolution will be shortened from an average of three months to one month, making BC Province the fastest province in Canada for handling rental disputes.

The RTB will establish a public database of rulings to enhance transparency in the handling process.

3. Optimized Management Regulations for Abandoned Items

The storage period will be reduced from 60 days to 30 days, and the minimum value standard for items requiring storage will be raised from CAD 500 to CAD 1000.

4. Multilingual Service Support

The government will provide multilingual rental guides including Simplified Chinese, covering processes such as debt collection, legal eviction procedures, and precautions for repossessing properties for self-occupation.

This round of reforms is a systematic optimization of the rental market management system by the BC Provincial Government. The adjustment of the notice period will help landlords plan their property usage more flexibly, while the improvement in dispute resolution efficiency can effectively reduce the financial loss risks for landlords. The simplification of abandoned item management also alleviates the daily management burden on landlords.
