The International Criminal Court has rejected the defense's application for the provisional release of former Philippine President Duterte

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has rejected the defense's application for the provisional release of former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and will continue to detain him.

In a ruling released on Friday, the court stated, "The Pre-Trial Chamber considers that the arguments presented by the defense, based on humanitarian considerations for the release of Mr. Duterte, should be rejected... The Pre-Trial Chamber concludes that it is still necessary to continue detaining Mr. Duterte."

Previously, the defense submitted an application requesting the release of Duterte on humanitarian grounds. The defense specifically pointed out that, given the health and mental condition of the suspect Duterte, the risk of his escape had been ruled out, and releasing him would not pose a threat to the trial process.
