South Korean media: Market share exceeds 50%, Chinese companies dominate the South Korean robot vacuum cleaner market!

On November 24, South Korean media "Global Economy" published an article stating that Chinese robot vacuum cleaner company Roborock has maintained the top position in the South Korean market with a market share of over 50%, and in the high-end market above 1.3 million KRW (about 6,487 RMB), it has established a dominant position with a market share of over 70%. The company continues to grow rapidly in the Asia-Pacific markets such as Japan and Australia, while expanding its global supply chain based on its smart factory located in Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, accelerating the globalization layout of Chinese home appliances.

Data from market research company IDC shows that Roborock holds the top position in the South Korean robot vacuum cleaner market with a market share of over 50%.

Roborock's dominant position in the South Korean market is increasingly strengthening. According to domestic market research data, Roborock's market share in the South Korean market rose from 46.5% in the first half of last year to over 50% in August this year. The second place, Samsung Electronics, has a market share of more than 20%, and the gap between the top two has more than doubled.

In the high-priced robot vacuum cleaner market priced above 1.3 million KRW, Roborock's position is particularly prominent. According to IDC data, Roborock dominates the South Korean high-end market with a market share of over 70%.

Since entering the South Korean market in 2020, Roborock has achieved nearly double growth every year. South Korean sales soared from 29.1 billion KRW in 2020 to 48.0 billion KRW in 2021, 100.0 billion KRW in 2022, and broke through 200.0 billion KRW in 2023. Industry analysts said that Roborock expanded its market share by offering a wide range of options from entry-level "Q series" to high-end products.

Roborock's success is not limited to South Korea. In Japan, its market share doubled compared to last year. During Amazon Japan's promotional event in October this year, multiple products ranked among the top of the robot vacuum cleaner popularity list. In Australia, multiple products also entered the top ten of the robot vacuum cleaner bestseller list.

According to IDC statistics, in the second quarter of this year, Roborock's robot vacuum cleaner shipments reached 1.34 million units, with a market share of 21.8%, maintaining the top position for ten consecutive quarters. The cumulative shipments in the first half of the year reached 2.33 million units, an increase of 67.9% year-on-year. Its market share exceeded 50% in key markets such as South Korea, Germany, Canada, and North America, with shipments in the North American market increasing by 65.3% year-on-year.

In the second quarter of this year, global robot vacuum cleaner shipments reached 6.17 million units, an increase of 20.5% year-on-year. Notably, the top five companies are all Chinese enterprises. Following Roborock, Ecovacs shipped 870,000 units and ranked second with a market share of 14.1%, while Deermaid ranked third with a 13.1% share. Xiaomi and Yunjing have market shares of 10.2% and 8.5%, respectively. Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics were categorized as "others" and did not make it into the top five.

Roborock's global expansion is supported by its intelligent manufacturing factory located in Hui Zhou, Guangdong Province, China. The robot vacuums produced at this factory are transported worldwide via logistics systems. A company representative said last year, "Due to the growing demand for robot vacuums in South Korea, we are expanding our Hui Zhou factory." Roborock is also actively investing in technology development, with more than 50% of its employees being engineers, and over 7% of annual sales revenue is invested in R&D.

The success of Chinese robot vacuum cleaner companies is based on strong technical capabilities. Roborock was founded in 2014 by engineers from Intel, Microsoft, and Baidu. Although it entered the market more than 10 years later than Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, it currently ranks first globally. Industry analysts believe that the success of Chinese companies is due to their active adoption of cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and sensors, as well as providing a diverse product line ranging from entry-level to high-end models priced up to 2 million KRW.

Chinese brand robot vacuums, with innovative products and excellent manufacturing capabilities, are increasingly becoming companions in the lives of many overseas families. Chinese home appliances, starting from the local market, have gradually entered the living rooms of households across Asian countries, and the pace of global expansion is expected to accelerate further.
