Eastern Gobi: Developing the Gobi Region into a Special Industrial Zone

Report of Mongol Telegraph Agency, Ulaanbaatar, May 13 - The first meeting of the Gobi Region Committee held on May 12 in Saynshand County of Dornogovaim Province decided to develop the Gobi region into a special industrial zone and green energy district. The meeting of the Gobi Region Committee resolved to implement 33 projects and activities in four fields using state and local budget funds to address pressing regional issues.

The meeting also decided to align with the development policies of the Gobi province, Dornogovi province, South Gobi province, and Middle Gobi province, redefine major construction activities in the Gobi region, create the "Gobi Region Development - 2040" plan, and establish the legal environment for the regional committee. It is proposed to formulate investment plans, project plans, regional characteristics, comparisons, and quality of life issues based on suggestions from the government, private sector, local leaders, citizens, and academic researchers, and submit them for approval at a government meeting.

Participants emphasized that according to the government's implementation of 14 major projects and regional development policies, the benefits of natural resources should directly impact the quality of life of residents in the Gobi region, where most of the budget revenue from the mining industry is concentrated.
