Korean Media: South Korean Battery Share Drops to 15.7%, Chinese Companies Lead Far Ahead!

On February 1, the Korean media outlet "Today's Finance" published an article stating that data from market research company SNE Research showed that the total battery usage for electric vehicles registered globally from January to November last year was approximately 1046 GWh, an increase of 32.6% compared to the same period last year.

During this period, the three South Korean battery companies, LG Energy Solution, SK On, and Samsung SDI, saw their global market share in electric vehicle battery usage decline by 3.5 percentage points to 15.7%.

LG Energy Solution maintained the third position, with a year-on-year growth of 11.1% (96.9 GWh). SK On ranked sixth, with a growth of 14.1% (40.6 GWh). Samsung SDI, however, declined by 5.1% (27.1 GWh).

The Japanese company Panasonic, which mainly supplies batteries to Tesla, had a battery usage of 38.5 GWh this year, ranking seventh.

Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) continued to maintain the top position globally, with a year-on-year growth of 34.5% (400 GWh).

BYD ranked second in global electric vehicle battery usage, with a growth rate of 31.3% (175.2 GWh).

SNE Research analyzed, "After the new year, the competitiveness of battery companies will depend on redesigning a portfolio covering electric vehicles and energy storage systems according to regional regulatory changes, rather than relying solely on global expansion itself."
