Bloomberg: Russia Launches First Batch of Internet Satellites into Orbit, Becoming SpaceX's Competitor

The Russian space company "Bureau 1440" successfully launched 16 broadband internet satellites into orbit. This marks the first step in Russia's effort to build a low Earth orbit satellite network, officially positioned by the country as the Russian counterpart to SpaceX's Starlink project.

The company stated, "The launch of the initial satellites in the target constellation signifies our transition from the experimental phase to providing communication services."

This launch is part of Russia's broader "Rassvet" (Dawn) project. Moscow aims to rapidly scale up this initiative in the coming years, with the goal of establishing an independent satellite internet network. Although its current scale cannot yet match Elon Musk's Starlink program, it seeks conceptually to compete with it.
