Pakistan and Sudan sign a major arms deal, with China also benefiting!
Multiple sources, including ProPakistani, confirmed on August 15 that Pakistan's military industry signed a defense agreement worth over $1.5 billion with Sudan's military industry. The agreement includes: 10 K-8 Karakoram trainer aircraft, 20 Shafer-2 drones, 150 Iha-3 drones, 50 MR-10K drones, 50 Ababil-5 drones, MiG-21 engines, 150 ASV Mohafiz armored vehicles, and HQ-9/HQ-6 air defense systems.
The most attention-grabbing part of the contract is the K8 trainer aircraft and the HQ-9/HQ-6 air defense systems. The K8 trainer aircraft was jointly developed by China and Pakistan, and it is also the first aircraft model in which China transferred its design and manufacturing technology to an overseas country. Pakistan has the production line for this aircraft model, but components such as the engine are still provided by us. As for the HQ-6 air defense system, China had previously sold military equipment to Sudan, and Pakistan does not produce this equipment. Moreover, Pakistan itself is not sufficient for the HQ-9 air defense system, so it would be impossible for them to deliver it to Sudan. It is clear who Sudan bought from.
Sudan is currently engaged in a civil war, and due to our relationship with the UAE (which supports Sudanese opposition forces), we cannot directly sell equipment. In this transaction, Pakistan may have played a key intermediary role, facilitating the re-export of Chinese military equipment. This arms sale agreement benefits both Pakistan and China, showcasing the flexibility of China's military equipment export system and the value of Pakistan's channel.
