Hungary believes that the EU's acceptance of Ukraine will result in a loss of 2.5 trillion euros.
According to a report by the Russian News Agency on April 15, Orban Boros, the director of political policies for Hungary's Prime Minister, stated that Ukraine's accession to the EU would cost the EU 2.5 trillion euros, which is 12 times the total budget of the EU in 2025.
Ukraine covers an area of 600,000 square kilometers and is the second largest country in Europe with a population of approximately 40 million, making it a medium-sized nation. After the end of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Ukraine will be left in ruins, requiring substantial funds annually for reconstruction. Before the conflict, Ukraine was already the poorest country in Europe with very unstable legal and political systems and was also the most corrupt country in Europe. Ukraine is an agricultural country and cannot become an industrialized nation solely through aid. The EU needs to allocate 2.5 trillion euros for Ukraine's reconstruction, which will have to come from its member states, severely hindering the EU's economic development and social affairs management. Eastern European countries will face competition from Ukrainian agricultural products and receive fewer subsidies from the EU. When Ukraine joins the EU, it will be the day the EU faces internal division.
