The U.S. Department of State said it might withdraw from peace talks in Ukraine.
Tammy Bruess, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, stated that if there were no progress in the peace talks in Ukraine, the United States would withdraw from the negotiations. However, so far, "things have not reached this point yet."
In an interview with Fox News, Bruess said, "If there is no progress, then this situation will change, and this change will involve our role as mediators. But at present, it has not come to this point, and the decision on this matter will be made by the president and the secretary of state."
Bruess pointed out that even if the United States gave up its role as a mediator, it did not mean that Washington would also give up the desire to see a ceasefire or provide help during the negotiation process.
He also said, "If both parties do not make progress, then we as mediators will step back. This does not mean that we abandon the desire for a ceasefire or that we abandon all measures that may help in this form or end the entire conflict."
