Foreign media: During the 2026 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition (Auto China 2026), He Xiaopeng, co-founder and CEO of XPeng Motors, publicly announced that XPeng will fully surpass Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) system in the Chinese market before August this year.
He Xiaopeng stated that XPeng's self-developed Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model system has already outperformed Tesla in certain complex driving scenarios, emphasizing that Chinese road conditions are more complicated. "If we can surpass Tesla here, our overall capability is naturally stronger." Notably, Tesla's full version of FSD has not yet received approval from Chinese regulatory authorities for on-road use, making direct comparison currently impossible.
This goal reflects the increasingly intense intelligence-driven arms race within China’s new energy vehicle market. As government subsidies gradually phase out, automakers are shifting focus toward software and intelligent driving technologies to seek new growth opportunities. Regulatory authorities have also clearly guided the industry to move beyond destructive price wars and toward independent innovation.
Tesla, as the only major foreign player in China’s new energy vehicle market, has become a key technological benchmark that domestic automakers are striving to surpass.
