According to information from Japan's Ministry of Defense's Joint Staff Office on September 14, 2026: At around 4 a.m. on September 13, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force confirmed the presence of a Chinese Navy "Dongtiao"-class intelligence gathering vessel (hull number "799", i.e., the electronic reconnaissance ship "Jinxing" of the Type 815A) approximately 70 kilometers west of Amami Oshima Island, heading southeast.

Subsequently, it was confirmed that the vessel passed through the strait between Amami Oshima and Yoko-dan Island (the Yoko-dan Strait), then proceeded northeastward toward the Pacific Ocean.

The Japan Ministry of Defense and the Self-Defense Forces deployed P-1 patrol aircraft from the 1st Air Group (based at Kadena Air Base) and the 4th Air Group (based at Atsugi Air Base) for surveillance and intelligence gathering.
