Building an Economic Union of the Turkic and Persian Language Families: Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO)
Kazakhstan International News Agency - According to the official website of the Prime Minister, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Ablaybek Bektanov, attended the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit held in Ganja, Azerbaijan on July 3.
The summit brought together senior leaders from various countries in the region, including the presidents of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the Deputy Prime Minister of Afghanistan, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan. Representatives from multiple international and regional organizations, such as the Organization of Turkic States, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), the Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA), the United Nations, and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), also participated.
During the meeting, participants discussed economic cooperation, focusing on key issues such as transportation logistics, energy cooperation, climate security, and digital transformation.
During the summit, Bektanov also held a bilateral meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of Afghanistan, Abdul Ghani Baradar. The two sides exchanged views on deepening cooperation between the two countries in areas such as trade, transportation, and agriculture.
Bektanov stated during the meeting that, in accordance with the initiative of President Tokayev, Kazakhstan is willing to participate in the investment and construction of the Turgun-Dy and Herat railway project.
"Afghanistan is an important bridge connecting Central Asia and South Asia. The construction of the trans-Afghan railway will bring positive development momentum to the entire region. The Kazakh government reiterates its willingness to participate in this project, and both sides are expected to sign a related memorandum soon," said Bektanov.
On July 3, the head of state, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, received the Prime Minister of the government, Bektanov, at the presidential palace.
