High-ranking officials of Sanae Hata's cabinet disclose family assets — who is the wealthiest?

The Japanese government disclosed on April 3 the asset details of the second-term cabinet members under Prime Minister Sanae Hata. Prime Minister Hata’s personal assets amount to 32.06 million yen, remaining unchanged from her first cabinet term.

This cabinet consists entirely of ministers retained from the inaugural cabinet formed in October last year; thus, there has been no significant change in the total assets of ministers and their families. However, the average individual asset value among Prime Minister Hata and the 19 other cabinet members has slightly decreased from 66.41 million yen in the previous term to 65.91 million yen.

The minister with the highest assets is Defense Minister Shigeru Koizumi, whose total reaches 264.84 million yen. This includes 130 million yen in government bonds and 124.84 million yen in other securities, all registered under his wife, Kristel Takigawa.

Besides Koizumi, five other ministers have total assets exceeding 100 million yen: Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi (193.97 million yen), Minister in charge of Administrative Reform Yoshimasa Hayashi (150.88 million yen), Finance Minister Ichirō Kataoka (139.66 million yen), and Chairperson of the National Public Safety Commission Kazunori Akama (118.04 million yen).

At the same time, the disclosures also included three Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretaries and 26 Vice Ministers, with an average asset value of 58.41 million yen each; and 28 Parliamentary Undersecretaries, averaging 18.59 million yen per person.
