Foreign Media: Brazil Considers Visa-Free Entry for Chinese Citizens to Attract the Rapidly Growing Outbound Tourism Market

According to reports by Brazilian local media citing government sources, Brazil is preparing to implement a visa-free policy for Chinese citizens traveling to Brazil for tourism and business purposes. The related decision is expected to be announced in early 2026.

This move is seen as a significant shift in Brazil's visa policy and will further deepen its relationship with its largest trading partner, China. Previously, China had unilaterally implemented a visa-free policy for short-term visits by Brazilian citizens to China, and Brazil's move will create an equivalent arrangement.

Inside the Brazilian government, it is believed that easing entry restrictions will help promote tourism, trade, and investment, with the benefits outweighing long-standing concerns about immigration risks. Data shows that in 2024, the number of Chinese tourists visiting Brazil exceeded 76,000, representing an almost 80% year-on-year increase.

If the policy is implemented, Brazil will become the third country in South America to offer comprehensive visa-free access for short stays by Chinese citizens. Currently, Ecuador and Suriname have implemented this policy. Other countries typically offer visa exemptions only for Chinese tourists holding U.S., Canadian, British, Australian, or Schengen visas.
