China-Kazakhstan Cooperation: Kazakh Government and Chinese Enterprise Discuss the Progress of the Sozak Gas Field Project

Kazakhstan International News Agency reports, according to the Prime Minister's Office website, Kazakh Prime Minister Beketayev met with Wang Wentao, head of Intercontinental Oil & Gas (Geo-Jade Petroleum) on June 13. Both parties discussed the progress of the "Sozak" gas field production project.

During the meeting, both sides had in-depth exchanges of opinions on issues such as cooperation in the oil and gas sector and the development of unconventional natural gas. This natural gas project is being implemented at the Sozak gas field in Kyzylorda Oblast.

Prime Minister Beketayev stated that Kazakhstan is committed to deepening cooperation on a mutually beneficial basis, actively developing non-traditional resource potential, and enhancing national energy security while promoting sustained economic growth. At the end of the meeting, both parties noted that they would continue to carry out specific advancement work at the working group level.

Intercontinental Oil & Gas is a large-scale petroleum and natural gas exploration and production enterprise headquartered in China. The company has been operating in Kazakhstan for more than ten years. During this period, it has implemented several large-scale oil and gas projects locally, with total investments exceeding $3 billion, creating nearly 1,000 long-term jobs.
