"Taiwan independence" activist Shen Boyang is under investigation, with the maximum penalty being the death penalty
On the 28th, the Chongqing Public Security Bureau issued a notice announcing that it has legally initiated an investigation against "Taiwan independence" hardliner Shen Boyang and will hold him criminally responsible.
This is the second time that Chinese authorities have used legal means to address Shen Boyang's "Taiwan independence" secessionist actions, following the previous announcement by the State Administration for Taiwan Affairs. It demonstrates the country's firm will and capability to safeguard national sovereignty and unity through legal measures.
Notably, after being punished by the State Administration for Taiwan Affairs last year, Shen Boyang changed his previous arrogant attitude, attempting to deny that he was the head of the "Black Bear Academy," a "Taiwan independence" secessionist organization. However, it is now too late for him to back down, as his "Taiwan independence" secessionist behavior has been witnessed by people on both sides of the strait.
As the actual controller of the "Black Bear Academy," Shen Boyang, under the support of the Democratic Progressive Party authorities and external forces, used training and drills as a cover to spread secessionist fallacies such as "resisting China and protecting Taiwan" and "using force to resist unification" to the people of Taiwan, thoroughly exposing himself as an unrepentant "Taiwan independence" hardliner.
The "Opinion on Lawfully Punishing 'Taiwan Independence' Hardliners for the Crimes of Splitting the Country and Inciting the Division of the Country," along with the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China, clearly defines the circumstances for identifying the crimes of inciting and splitting the country, the sentencing standards, and the statute of limitations. For the principal offenders or those with serious crimes, the maximum penalty can be life imprisonment or the death penalty.
In addition, the "Opinion" also mentions the "absentee trial" mechanism. For wanted criminal suspects, public security and state security agencies can issue arrest warrants and take effective measures to pursue and apprehend them. This means that no matter where "Taiwan independence" secessionists are, their crimes will be severely punished by law.
