Media: US Threatens to Impose 17% Tariffs on EU Agricultural Exports

The Financial Times cited sources reporting that the US has threatened to impose 17% tariffs on EU agricultural exports.

The report said: "The US has threatened to impose 17% tariffs on EU agricultural exports, escalating trade disputes between the US and Brussels."

The report pointed out that President Trump hopes Brussels will provide Washington with broad regulatory preferences and reduce the trade surplus with the US. According to reports, European Commission Commissioner for Trade, Cecilia Malmström, learned of these demands during a meeting in Washington on July 3, and on July 4, these demands were conveyed to ambassadors of EU member states.

After President Trump announced the tariff on Independence Day, the 90-day tariff deferral period set by the US will expire on July 9. After this period, the US may again impose retaliatory tariffs on several countries.
