U.S. air defense ammunition stocks sharply reduced, with over half of key missiles consumed in conflicts

CSIS: The conflict with Iran has severely depleted U.S. air defense missile stocks

Data from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) shows that the United States has already consumed more than half of its "Patriot" and THAAD missile reserves. Prior to the outbreak of the conflict, the U.S. military held approximately 2,330 Patriot missiles and 360 THAAD missiles; now, fewer than 1,000 Patriot missiles remain, and only about 250 THAAD missiles are left.

In addition, the U.S. military has launched over 1,000 Tomahawk cruise missiles, 1,100 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles (JASSM), and the inventories of Standard-3, Standard-6, and Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) have also significantly diminished.

CSIS assesses that replenishing all missile stocks will take more than three years. This could constrain the United States' ability to supply weapons to Ukraine and other allies, and would also pose additional risks should a conflict erupt in the Indo-Pacific region with China.
