Foreign Media: According to analysis by the Center for Research on Energy and Air (CREA), a large amount of wind and photovoltaic power in China is being "wasted" due to grid management issues.

The report points out that despite the rapid growth of wind and solar power installed capacity in China, the power grid still relies heavily on coal as a base-load power source, hindering the full utilization of clean energy. This has resulted in China's inability to effectively harness green electricity equivalent to France's annual power consumption, even as global energy shortages intensify and tensions over the Strait of Hormuz escalate.

The report shows that in the first quarter of this year, rising energy demand was met not by new energy sources but by fossil fuels. CREA notes that the curtailment of wind and solar power has made China more dependent on traditional energy sources such as coal and natural gas in the face of potential blockades in the Strait of Hormuz, thereby increasing energy security risks.

Analysis suggests the issue is not inadequate grid infrastructure, but rather the lack of flexibility in coal-fired power generation and grid management models, which constrain the expansion of renewable energy and the modernization of the power system.
