Sen. Yutaka Moriyama of the Liberal Democratic Party: Hopes to Visit China as Soon as Possible
As reported by Sankei News on May 14: Amid U.S. President Trump's visit to China, Yutaka Moriyama, Secretary-General of the Japan-China Friendship Parliamentarians' League—a non-partisan group—and former Director-General of the Liberal Democratic Party, stated in a radio broadcast on the morning of the 13th that he hopes to visit China as soon as possible, in an effort to improve Sino-Japanese relations, which have gradually cooled due to the remarks made by Asahi Takashi regarding Taiwan's emergency status.
The parliamentary league visited Beijing last year, but this year's visit has been postponed.
Moriyama explained: "I hope I can get the opportunity to visit China as soon as possible, but it seems not quite the right time yet. I really hope it can happen soon."
Speaking about China, he said: "As a major neighboring country, further deepening friendly relations is crucial. To improve relations, we must ensure that China understands Japan’s position toward China has not changed due to Ms. Takashi’s comments—it remains consistent with our long-standing stance."
