Media: Senior official says new supreme leader rejects proposal to ease tensions, Iranian ambassador says Mohsen is in Russia for treatment is false news

According to Reuters, a senior Iranian official on Tuesday said that Iran's new supreme leader, Mohsen Khomeini, rejected the proposal from mediators to Tehran to ease the situation and demanded first that Israel and the United States "kneel and submit."

The official stated that Mohsen Khomeini, for the first time since becoming supreme leader, held a meeting on foreign policy and adopted a "very tough and serious" retaliatory stance toward the United States and Israel. However, the official did not specify whether the supreme leader attended in person or remotely.

The anonymous senior official claimed that two intermediary countries had conveyed proposals to the Iranian Foreign Ministry regarding "relaxing tensions with the United States or a ceasefire." The official did not reveal further details about these proposals or the intermediary countries.

Mohsen Khomeini responded by saying, "It is not yet the right time to seek peace before making the United States and Israel kneel, accept defeat, and pay compensation."

In the Islamic Republic of Iran, the supreme leader has the final say on all national affairs. Since being selected by the clerical council more than a week ago to succeed his father Khomeini, there have been no recent photos of Mohsen Khomeini released. Some Iranian officials claim that Mohsen Khomeini suffered minor injuries in the attack that led to his father's death. However, U.S. officials have hinted that he was seriously injured.

In his first public statement after being elected, the new supreme leader stated that the Strait of Hormuz should remain blocked as a means of pressuring "Iran's enemies." This statement was broadcast by the state television last week. Three sources told Reuters on the 14th that the Trump administration had rejected efforts by regional allies to initiate diplomatic negotiations to end the Iran war.

Notably, TASS reported that the Iranian ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, stated via social media on Tuesday that the news about Mohsen Khomeini being treated in Moscow is fake news.

His post read, "Today, the news about the Supreme Leader of the Revolution being sent to Russia for treatment is a new psychological warfare. The Iranian leaders do not need to flee or hide in shelters; they should be among the people on the streets. The blood of martyr Khomeini will dispel the spell of psychological warfare and the flood of lies."

Previously, Kuwaiti media Al-Jarida reported that a source revealed that Mohsen had been transferred to Moscow by a military aircraft due to health and security conditions. It was reported that Mohsen underwent a "successful" surgery upon arrival and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital within the presidential residence.
