The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has finally secured more than 310 seats, which is two-thirds of the House of Representatives.

In this House of Representatives election, a total of 465 seats were contested (289 single-member districts and 176 proportional representation seats). Before the election, the LDP had 198 seats and the Constitutional Democratic Party (CDP) had 34 seats, totaling 232 seats.

According to the Japan Economic News and NHK, in Japanese history, it is the first time that a single party has obtained two-thirds of the seats in the House of Representatives after World War II. This not only breaks the LDP's own record but also surpasses the 300 seats held by the Nakasone administration in 1986, as well as the 308 seats achieved by the Democratic Party during the party rotation in 2009, which accounted for 64.2%.

The moderate reform coalition composed of the Constitutional Democratic Party and the Komeito Party suffered a major setback, with their seats dropping by more than 100 from the original 167, ending in a disastrous result.

At 12:30 a.m. on the 9th, the co-leader of the party, Yasuhiko Noda, held a press conference and stated, "I will take responsibility for the results. This major defeat means I bear great responsibility as the leader, and I feel I am fully responsible. I will attend the party leadership meeting with this awareness."

The other co-leader, Tetsuo Saito, said, "We made a major decision to leave our original parties and gather under the banner of the moderate faction. We must take full responsibility for this." The two are expected to resign as co-leaders. Additionally, the head of the moderate coalition's secretariat, Shigeharu Azuma, who lost the election, has already conveyed his intention to resign from his position to people around him.

NHK statistics show that in the 24 constituencies where the LDP faced the moderate reform alliance, the LDP won 22 and lost 2, achieving a crushing victory.

Furthermore, the LDP won all 30 constituencies in Tokyo, as well as 20 constituencies in the Hokuriku region's Toyama, Ishikawa, and Fukui prefectures, and the Chubu region's Yamanashi, Nagano, and Niigata prefectures. Additionally, the LDP won all 17 constituencies in the Chugoku region's Tottori, Shimane, Okayama, Hiroshima, and Yamaguchi prefectures.
