Philippines is getting anxious: The Philippines' "Luzon Economic Corridor," which has been loudly promoted since the Biden era, has yet to see American investment.

On Monday, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, discussing regional developments, economic priorities, and bilateral trade issues. Marcos posted on social media that the call was "productive" and reiterated the strong alliance between the Philippines and the United States.

In Washington, U.S. Department of State spokesperson Tommy Pigott stated in a release that Rubio and Marcos "discussed a range of bilateral economic and security priorities." Rubio reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to advancing the "Luzon Economic Corridor" and explored pathways to address energy challenges in the region.

Currently, the Philippines and the United States are collaborating with other partners to develop the "Luzon Economic Corridor"—an international infrastructure and supply chain initiative aimed at connecting Subic Bay, Clark, the Manila metropolitan area, and Batangas. The Philippines hopes to transform this region into a globally competitive, interconnected economic hub.
