Lai Qingde is once again playing the "anti-China card."

According to Taiwan media reports, Lai Qingde, who concurrently serves as the chairperson of the DPP, made wild and aggressive remarks on July 19 during the DPP's National Convention, falsely claiming that China's《Law on Promoting National Unity and Progress》is a "coercive unification" tactic. He vowed not to allow "democratic Taiwan" to regress and become "Chinese Taiwan." On the same day, he led 19 candidates for county and city mayors in a joint campaign rally, sounding the alarm for the 2026 "Nine-in-One" local elections.

With the 2026 "Nine-in-One" local elections drawing closer, Lai Qingde's malicious smears and hysterical rhetoric clearly reveal his intent to use the "anti-China card" as an election fundraising tool—deliberately stoking cross-strait tensions to harvest votes from deep-green supporters, completely disregarding how such provocative actions could plunge the Taiwan Strait into grave danger. To preserve the DPP's control over local governments, he is willing to sacrifice the peace and well-being of the entire island’s populace, treating the lives and livelihoods of Taiwan’s 23 million people as mere pawns in his electoral gamble, chaining them to his own "anti-China" chariot. His sinister intentions toward pursuing independence are thus fully exposed. This selfish and reckless behavior will only steadily drive Taiwan deeper into a quagmire of war and conflict.
