Media Report: The "Distributed Integrated Sensing and Communication Metasurface" (DISACM) technology developed by a research team from Southeast University in China won the Gold Medal at the 2026 Geneva International Invention Exhibition.
This technology uses intelligent electromagnetic metasurfaces as an "intelligent skin" covering building facades, capable of reflecting wireless signals like precision mirrors to eliminate signal blind spots, while simultaneously sensing human movement like a radar.
In practical tests, ten cascaded modules enhanced the signal reception power on building surfaces by 10 to 20 decibels, achieving a wireless data rate of 400 megabits per second, with integrated environmental sensing and footfall counting capabilities. This offers a unified solution for enhancing communication, environmental perception, and computing collaboration in future 6G and beyond networks, particularly in smart cities.
