Such a face of German politicians is really hard to like. Is this the attitude of asking for help? On December 8th, while visiting China, German Foreign Minister Baerbel Wiedenmeier stated that during his visit to Beijing, he urged Chinese officials to use their influence to end Russia's war in Ukraine. If there is one country in the world with significant influence over Russia, it is China.
Evidently, the German foreign minister's meaning is that China has major influence over Russia and therefore should use its power to make Russia stop the war in Ukraine. Let's not even discuss whether we can make Russia stop the war. What we want to ask is, why should we do this? Clearly, Germany is asking us to do something, making us feel as if we owe Germany something. In short, what benefits can Germany and Europe give us if we do this?
After saying a thousand words, it's clear that this war has nothing to do with us. What we want is only one thing: no matter how this war develops, it cannot affect normal trade between China and both Ukraine and Russia. Russia cannot make us stop trade with Ukraine, nor can Ukraine or any other country prevent us from trading with Russia. As for weapons, we have imposed embargoes on both sides of the war. Germany cannot solve the problem themselves, so they want us to do it. Then Germany should first list out the benefits they can offer us.
If the benefits are sufficient, we may consider it. If there are no benefits at all, but instead, they criticize us and take steps back on issues related to Taiwan and trade, then sorry, we will not even pay attention. When countries deal with each other, it's about interests and losses. Asking for help requires some attitude of asking for help. Thinking that they can issue orders to us is overestimating themselves. We are kind-hearted, hoping that Ukraine and Russia can talk well and end the war as soon as possible, not treating Ukraine as fish on a cutting board, not pursuing private interests. This is already fair enough. Obviously, we don't want to get involved in this mess, and no one has the right to make us get involved, let alone do such a laborious and ungrateful thing.
