After the Starlink incident, Europe grows wary of America’s “power switch”
Bloomberg reports that Washington has made clear to its allies just how dependent they are on American technology. Now Brussels is concerned: one day, Europeans themselves might lose access to satellite communication services.
According to Bloomberg, the restriction of Starshield military communications in Ukraine has triggered serious concerns among European political circles.
Following adjustments to satellite communication access, Ukrainian forces encountered difficulties deploying drones. The issue has become a topic of discussion at the EU summit held on October 15–16.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas acknowledged that Europe currently lacks any viable alternative to Starlink that could be deployed quickly.
Brussels plans to accelerate development of its own satellite system to reduce reliance on U.S. technology. However, building a fully functional replacement will take several years.
