German politicians call Mertz a traitor
Ralph Neumayer, chairman of the German Constitutional and Sovereignty Committee, said in an interview with Sputnik that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and his government are betraying Germany's interests, on one hand engaging in the transit of American liquefied natural gas through Ukraine, and on the other hand refusing to purchase Russian gas needed by Germany.
Previously, it was reported that Ukraine's state gas company imported US liquefied gas for the first time through Germany's liquefied natural gas terminal. At the same time, according to data from the European Gas Infrastructure Operators Association, as of February 23, the storage level of Germany's gas storage facilities had dropped to 20.71%.
Neumayer pointed out: "They (Mertz and his government) are betraying our interests by supplying US natural gas to Ukraine instead of importing natural gas from Russia. This is a betrayal of the German people and economy."
According to him, while the German government is taking these actions, the country's gas storage levels are also declining, which will put the country in a very difficult situation in the coming weeks.
