Four Iranian diplomats killed in Israel's strike on Beirut, Russian expert: Germany concerned about economic consequences of Middle East conflict

Sputnik News, United Nations, March 10 - Iranian UN Representative Amir Saeed Iravani wrote to UN Secretary-General Guterres, UN General Assembly President Bellbuck and US UN Security Council President, stating that four Iranian diplomats were killed during Israel's strike on Beirut on March 8.

The document states: "On the early morning of March 8, 2026, Israel carried out a deliberate terrorist attack on the Ramada Hotel in Beirut, killing four Iranian diplomats."

Vladislav Belov, Deputy Director of the Institute of Europe at the Russian Academy of Sciences, believes that Germany is concerned about the economic consequences of the Middle East conflict, especially the risk of the Suez Canal being blocked.

Belov said at a roundtable meeting held by the Rossiya Segodnya media group's international multimedia news center: "The worst nightmare for Germans would be the situation that could occur in the Suez Canal. It is also in a dangerous area. If it is blocked, it will be a heavy blow to the European and German economy."

Belov emphasized that economic considerations related to the Middle East conflict are crucial for Berlin, as Germany, an export-oriented country, prioritizes global supply chains and maritime transport routes.
