Trump: Washington D.C. to Restore the Death Penalty
According to CNN, on September 25 local time, U.S. President Trump signed a presidential memorandum seeking to restore the death penalty in Washington D.C. At the same time, U.S. Attorney General Barr announced that the death penalty will be implemented nationwide.
Trump told reporters in the Oval Office: "Implementing the death penalty in Washington D.C., if someone kills, or kills a police officer or law enforcement officer, they should be sentenced to death. I hope this way, no one will dare to commit such an act again."
"It's interesting that implementing the death penalty in the capital. 'Capital punishment' and 'capital', the same word." He added.
Barr, who was standing beside Trump in the Oval Office at the time, announced: "We not only seek to impose the death penalty in Washington D.C., but also throughout the country."
Barr also said that the Department of Justice is currently working on placing prisoners who were removed from the death row list during the previous president Biden's term into maximum security prisons.
"We will transfer them to 'super prisons' and treat them as death row inmates for the rest of their lives," Barr said.
