Korean Media: Global Electric Vehicle Sales, Chinese Brands Lead the Way, Hyundai Ranks 8th!
On December 31, the Korean media "Asia Business Daily" published an article stating that according to a survey, the number of newly registered electric vehicles worldwide exceeded 17 million this year, an increase of 25.5% year-on-year.
According to data released by market research company SNE Research, from January to October this year, the total sales of electric vehicles worldwide reached 17.102 million units, an increase of about 3.5 million units compared to the same period last year (13.625 million units).
Looking at brands, BYD from China sold 3.322 million units, an increase of 4.8% year-on-year, ranking first globally. The second was Geely Group from China, with sales of 1.78 million units, an increase of 64.7%. Tesla in the United States sold 1.308 million units, a decrease of 7.7% year-on-year, ranking third.
Hyundai Motor Group ranked eighth with sales of about 529,000 units, an increase of 15.1% year-on-year. According to SNE Research's data, in the pure electric vehicle sector, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV3 are among the top-selling models, while compact models such as Casper EV, EV5, and Creta Electric have also received positive market responses.
China ranked first in regional electric vehicle sales with 10.894 million units (accounting for 63.7%), an increase of 24.2% year-on-year. The European market saw sales grow by 32.9% to 3.357 million units, accounting for 19.6% of the market share.
The North American market saw sales grow by 4.7% to 1.55 million units, but its market share dropped by 1.8 percentage points to 9.1%. In addition to China, the Asian market grew by 56% to 973,000 units, accounting for 5.7% of the market share.
