Kuala Lumpur Trade Talks End, China and US Have Very Different Summaries!
The two-day Kuala Lumpur talks have ended. According to U.S. Trade Representative Griles, although it cannot be said that all issues have been completely resolved, the results are obvious, and some parts are almost ready for review by leaders, with subsequent discussions needed on some details after the framework has been discussed.
Compared to the U.S. optimism, the Chinese summary is steady and cautious: "The Chinese and U.S. delegations held consultations in Malaysia to eliminate bilateral trade frictions, and had in-depth and candid discussions on jointly concerned economic and trade issues and exchanged views."
The Chinese "candid discussion" and the U.S. "productive outcome" are very different. Whenever the word "candid" is used in diplomatic contexts, it often means that both sides have addressed key issues and genuinely expressed their positions, but there are still differences in positions.
