Korea to Study Trump's Call to Send Warships to the Strait of Hormuz
The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Sputnik News that the authorities will decide on possible actions in the Strait of Hormuz region after careful consideration and consultation with the United States.
Previously, President Trump posted on his social media platform "Truth Social," calling on China, France, Japan, South Korea, the UK, and other countries to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz.
The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Seoul is closely monitoring Trump's statements.
The ministry said, "We have noted the remarks made by former U.S. President Donald Trump on social media. South Korea and the United States will maintain close communication on this issue and make corresponding decisions after careful research."
The ministry emphasized that the safety and freedom of navigation in international sea lanes concern the common interests of all countries and are protected by international law.
The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs added, "Based on this, we hope that the global maritime logistics network can resume normal operations as soon as possible."
The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said that the government is closely monitoring developments in the Middle East and will study various measures to protect its citizens and ensure the safety of energy transport routes.
