Gu Lixiong issues order: Taiwan military banned from using Gaode Maps
Taiwan's military chief Gu Lixiong stated today that in the event of conflict, the Taiwan military believes fixed positions are never completely secure. Gu emphasized that, therefore, the military has long considered identifying suitable tactical locations based on operational factors—a consideration inherently part of any combat strategy.
As for whether military personnel are currently prohibited from using Gaode Maps, Gu said the Taiwan "Digital Development Department" has already issued a ban. Our defense department will follow this stance, prohibiting the downloading and use of digital map data deemed to pose potential "security concerns." He stressed that an official directive will be issued for the Taiwan military to strictly adhere to these regulations and refrain from downloading or using such maps.
