The alignment between China’s exports and the EU’s imports has been steadily improving, while the congruence between EU exports and China’s imports has been declining. Meanwhile, competition between the two regions in global markets has grown increasingly direct: taking road vehicles as an example, China’s share of global exports rose from approximately 4% in 2010 to around 14% by 2025, while the EU’s share fell from about 16% to roughly 12% over the same period. This indicates that European automakers now face Chinese competition not merely within bilateral trade relations, but increasingly across the broader global market.
