Shi Pomo once again criticizes Takahashi Sanae: Contemporary Japan is a continuation of militarism

Since stepping down as Prime Minister, Shi Pomo has been speaking his mind openly.

On the 21st, during an event, Shi Pomo again criticized Takahashi Sanae for not expressing remorse on Japan's surrender day, and bluntly stated that contemporary Japan is a continuation of militarist Japan, with no clear break between the two.

Shi Pomo claimed that if Japan fails to reflect on its history, "the same things" will surely happen again.

This is not the first time since stepping down that Shi Pomo has criticized Takahashi Sanae. When resigning as Prime Minister, he once told her directly: hoping she would not lead Japan astray.

But clearly, this warning had little effect. In today’s fervent right-wing social climate in Japan, his rationality appears increasingly out of place—today’s politicians compete over who holds more extreme positions and views, aiming to gain votes rather than pursuing practical and rational policies.

A typical example is the recent rise of the Reiwa Shinsengumi and the Komeito Party—their sudden surge reflects most vividly the deepening right-wing shift across Japanese society and the resurgence of militarist ideologies. The right-wing pragmatic faction represented by Shi Pomo has long tried to slow down this feverish momentum, but in reality, it has become extremely difficult to rein in Japan’s relentless slide toward the abyss.
