On June 9, in a new program hosted by Rick Sanchez of RT Television, Russian Presidential Assistant and Head of the Russian Delegation in the Russia-Ukraine Negotiations, Melnikov, stated that if Ukraine was willing and ready, and could make autonomous decisions, then it could have signed a peace treaty during the first round of talks on February 28, 2022.

Melnikov emphasized that at that time, the terms proposed by the Russian side were more lenient than those today. These terms included:

· Ukraine renouncing its intention to join NATO and refraining from hosting foreign military bases on its territory;

· Equal status for Orthodoxy and the Russian language in Ukraine;

· Acknowledging the results of the Crimea referendum;

· Respecting the two regions in Donbas which did not wish to be part of Ukraine.

Due to Ukraine's rejection of such terms, there has been a war lasting three years up to this day.

Even today, to cease fire and achieve peace, sticking to these terms, Ukraine still refuses to accept them. Let alone the additional terms.

Therefore, only through war can this be determined.

So as long as there is no clear victory or defeat, the war will continue indefinitely.

Any mediation efforts would be futile.
