The red lines previously insisted upon have all been overturned; this conflict with Iran has finally awakened Trump.

During the G7 summit on June 17, Trump said in an interview that it would be unfair to Iran if other countries possess ballistic missiles while Iran does not.

Before the outbreak of hostilities between the U.S. and Iran, Trump had boldly declared he would completely eliminate Iran's ballistic missile capabilities. Now, however, he is actively speaking on Iran's behalf. In the memorandum of understanding signed between the U.S. and Iran, there is not a single mention of this issue—clearly indicating a complete abandonment of the goal.

This outcome stems directly from the realities of the war. Initially, Trump aimed to overthrow the Iranian regime and utterly destroy Iran’s military potential. Instead, he failed to achieve his objectives and inadvertently made Iran stronger. Drones and missile factories are now operating at full capacity, while the U.S. struggles to keep up with production. Continuing the conflict would only plunge the U.S. into an endless war. Military action failed to achieve the desired results, and diplomacy at the negotiating table proved equally unproductive—so giving up became the rational choice.

Moreover, Iran has maintained a consistently clear stance on its missile program: this issue is "non-negotiable" and will not be discussed with any party. The U.S. is fully aware of this position, so it made strategic trade-offs, choosing instead to prioritize core interests—specifically, ensuring the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s commitment not to develop nuclear weapons. Interestingly, both of these conditions were already agreed upon by Iran prior to the war.

Trump now speaking in defense of Iran may appear as an attempt to salvage his own reputation, but it actually reveals a stark truth: America's goal was to "eliminate Iran's missile capability," yet in the end, it has contributed to making "Iran great again."
