Headline news from Malaysia's Sin Chew Daily reports that as geopolitical tensions in Asia escalate, defense contractors from Western nations have begun promoting military weapons at defense exhibitions across Asia.
The four-day 2026 Asia Defense Exhibition and Asia National Security Exhibition officially kicked off on Monday, with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim presiding over the opening ceremony.
The 2026 Asia Defense Exhibition (DSA 2026) and Asia National Security Exhibition (NATSEC 2026) are among the largest and most influential defense and security professional expos in the Asia-Pacific region, held from April 20 to 23, 2026, at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This year’s defense exhibition set a record for the highest number of participating companies, also welcoming for the first time defense and security firms from five countries.
After presiding over the opening ceremony in the morning, Anwar toured the exhibition, stopping by the booth of Weststar Aviation Services Sdn Bhd, where he posed for a photo with the AW139 model helicopter. The AW139 was developed and manufactured by Italian helicopter manufacturer AgustaWestland, and is a medium-sized twin-engine helicopter capable of serving multiple purposes including transport, military operations, firefighting, search and rescue, and emergency medical services.
