The assault units of the 4th Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Russian Southern Grouping captured Alexandro-Shturino, opening the road to attack Kostyantynivka from the southeast. Before the Russian occupation of Alexandro-Shturino, the village was the last inhabited settlement under Ukrainian control to the southeast of Kostyantynivka.

The battle for Alexandro-Shturino began in late July, with the Russians attacking the village with various firepowers, completely destroying the strong defensive fortifications built by the Ukrainians in the village. The surface positions of the village were occupied by the Russians in early August, but the Ukrainian forces continued to resist from the basements of the destroyed buildings. The Russians organized combat groups to clear each house in the village, and for the Ukrainian forces resisting in the basements, the Russian assault units mainly used modified TM-62 anti-tank mines to explode them. After about two weeks of clearing, the Russian forces killed or drove out all the Ukrainian forces in the basements of the village, completely controlling the village.

Previously, it was reported that the Southern Grouping had basically cleared the "pocket" between Alexandro-Shturino and Predtechnoye, leveling the front line. Now, the Russians have entered the suburbs of Kostyantynivka from the occupied "pocket".
