Rosatom: Will Build Russian-designed Nuclear Power Plants in China
Russian State News Agency, Hangzhou (China), November 03 - Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev stated that Russia will build a nuclear power plant designed by Russia in China. The plans of Moscow and Beijing include the active use of fast neutron reactors and closed nuclear fuel cycle technology.
Prime Minister Mishustin of Russia arrived in China on November 03 for a two-day visit. On the same day, he participated in the 30th regular meeting of the heads of government of the two countries with the Chinese Premier and signed a joint communiqué and a series of documents.
Likhachev told journalists: "We should enter the next round of bilateral cooperation in the field of atomic energy. It certainly includes building a Russian-designed nuclear power plant in China, jointly researching fourth-generation nuclear power generation with closed nuclear fuel cycles, and more actively using fast neutron industrial reactors."
Likhachev pointed out that the task set by Rosatom is to reach corresponding agreements regarding the construction of nuclear power plants in China and to resolve issues of mutual benefit.
Likhachev added: "Firstly, we need to strengthen cooperation in the nuclear fuel cycle, thereby increasing the equipment level of uranium products for China's nuclear power plants."
